Cabinet of Ministers approves draft legislation enabling the issuance of Certificates of Absence

Today, June 7th, the Cabinet of Ministers approved draft legislation enabling the issuance of Certificates of Absence. The draft legislation which involves an amendment to the Registration of Deaths (Temporary Provisions) Act, No. 19 of 2010 will now be gazetted and the process of presentation to Parliament will commence.

Addressing the MEDEF International (French Entrepreneurs Association) at a business conclave in Paris, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Managal Samaraweera, spoke in front of a large delegation of French entrepreneurs covering multiple sectors in which the French expertise were present internationally. Foreign Minister, outlined the key economic targets of the Sri Lanka government and stressed the role of French investments in the country as a means of deepening the strategic partnership.

Dear Sirs,
This is to inform that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Colombo has informed this High Commission that a comprehensive programme of action has been put into place to provide urgent relief assistance to those affected by the floods in Sri Lanka. The High Commission has been authorised to accept donations in cash for this purpose since it will help to purchase most of the urgent relief items locally in Sri Lanka and rush such items immediately to the affected areas.
Sri Lankan expatriates wishing to make donations are kindly requested to deposit them in the official bank account of the Sri Lanka High Commission in Ottawa, of which details are as follows:

State Secretary of Norway to visit Sri Lanka

State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Norway, Tore Hattrem, is scheduled to visit Sri Lanka from 31 May - 2 June 2016.
The State Secretary will meet the Minister of Foreign Affairs on 31 May where discussions are expected to take place on follow-up to the visit in January this year of the Minister of Foreign Affairs Børge Brende.

Foreign Minister Mangala Samaraweera, together with the Minister of Disaster Management Anura Priyadharshana Yapa and the Minister of Health & Indigenous Medicine Dr. Rajitha Senaratne briefed the Heads of Diplomatic Missions and International Organisations based in Colombo, on the flood and landslide situation in the country, yesterday Thursday 19 May 2016 at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Foreign Minister Samaraweera expressed appreciation to the international community for their messages of condolence and assistance to victims.
