Maldivian Foreign Minister Dr. Mohamed Asim calls on Foreign Minister Mangala Samaraweera
Hon. Mangala Samaraweera, Minister of Foreign Affairs held discussions with Dr. Mohamed Asim, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Maldives today (02.11.2016) at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The two Ministers discussed ways and means of strengthening bilateral relations, including economic and trade links. Discussions were also held on enhancing cooperation in the areas of education, health, investment and security. The Foreign Ministers agreed to hold the next Joint Commission meeting between the two countries early next year. The last meeting of the Maldives- Sri Lanka Joint Commission was held in Colombo on 10 September 2014.

- At the outset, let me convey my delegation’s appreciation to the Government and the people of the Kingdom of Morocco for hosting this important Conference and for the warm hospitality extended to us. Let me also convey the best wishes of my President H.E. Maithripala Sirisena.
- This Conference is significant as it takes place just days after the entry into force of the Paris Agreement on Climate Change on the 4th of November.

It is a pleasure to be here with you this morning, and I extend to all of you, a very warm welcome to Sri Lanka.
I understand that this meeting brings together State representatives, representatives of transitional justice mechanisms, national human rights institutions, NGOs, victims groups, UN officials, and representatives of regional organisations from the Asia-Pacific region to discuss and share experiences on transitional justice processes in the region.

The Sri Lankan Community in the Greater Toronto Area organized an event, in co-ordination with the Consulate General of Sri Lanka, to celebrate the Deepavali Festival, bringing the Sri Lankan community together on 30th October 2016 at the Periya Sivan Temple Hall, in Scarborough.
