Sri Lanka participated at the SIAL Canada 2018 - Food and Beverage Sector International Exhibition, which is one of world’s most popular professional food and beverage sector exhibitions. SIAL Canada is visited by several thousand buyers, buying agents, importers, food sector distributors, experts, wholesalers and retailers.

First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Serbia Ivica Dačić visits Sri Lanka: both sides agree to explore avenues to enhance trade and business ties as well as people-to-people cooperation

First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Serbia Ivica Dačić concluded a two day official visit to Sri Lanka today.

During the visit, Minister Dačić had meetings with Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, the Speaker of the Parliament Karu Jayasuriya, the Minister of Foreign Affairs Tilak Marapana, and the Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation Nimal Siripala de Silva.

Participating in the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in London, President Sirisena highlighted Sri Lanka’s blue-green growth strategy for sustainable development

President Maithripala Sirisena represented Sri Lanka at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting and participated in connected meetings and events in London from 16 to 21 April 2018. The formal Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting consists of the pre-meeting of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, the formal meeting of the Heads of Government and the Leaders Retreat. President Sirisena was accompanied by the Minister of Foreign Affairs Tilak Marapana.

Death of Ms. Renuka B. Amarasinghe, a Sri Lankan Origin Canadian Citizen

Ms. Renuka B. Amarasinghe, a Sri Lankan origin Canadian citizen was among the 10 victims who passed away due to the van attack on pedestrians that took place in North Toronto on 23rd April 2018 at 1.30 p.m., Eastern Time, as per media reports.

Though it is yet to be officially confirmed by Canadian authorities, the Sri Lankan community is aware of the death of Ms. Amarasinghe, who is a mother of a 7-year old boy.

At a meeting held last evening, at the Toronto Maha Vihara under the patronage of Ven. Ahangama Rathanasiri Thero, the Chief Incumbent of the Vihara, which was attended by Consul General of Sri Lanka in Toronto and Consulate officials, it was decided that funeral arrangements will be organized, with assistance of the Sri Lankan community once the official formalities are completed. An update from concerned Canadian authorities is awaited.

The Consulate General is in constant contact with relevant authorities and members of the community and is extending all possible assistance.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Tilak Marapana, attended the Berlin Energy Transition Dialogue (BETD), which commenced under the patronage of Federal Foreign Office and Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy of Germany on Tuesday 16 April 2018.

“බුද්ධරශ්මි” (Buddha Rashmi) National Vesak Festival 2018

The Buddha Rashmi National Vesak Festival coordinated by Gangaramaya Temple, and the Prime Minister's office is organizing for the 12th consecutive year will be held from April 29th, 30th & May 01st, 02nd 2018 at the Hunupitiya, Gangaramaya Temple and the Temple Trees premises. The event will reflect the teachings of Lord Buddha and traditional Buddhist culture

This festival will consist numerous events such as, exposition of Lord Buddha's relics from Saranath, India, Gandara relics from Taxila, Pakistan and historical Buddhist artifacts from Nepal.

The organizers will decorate with Vesak lanterns, pandols and Vesak illuminations highlighting the Buddhist historical stories on the vicinity of Hunupitiya Gangaramaya Temple and streets in Colombo.
