Statement made by Hon. Mangala Samaraweera, Minister of Foreign Affairs on 12th June 2015 in Response to the Question by Opposition Leader Hon. Nimal Siripala De Silva under the Standing Order 23/2 of Parliament

Honourable Speaker,

I rise to respond to questions raised by the Honourable Leader of Opposition relating to the discussions that took place between the GTF and the TNA in London, and my presence there.

As the House is aware, the Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission was appointed by President Mahinda Rajapaksa on the 15th of May 2010.

The Report of the Commission was handed over to President Rajapaksa on the 15th of November 2011 and it was tabled for the attention of all the Members of this House, on the 16thof December 2011.

 

Spokesperson’s response to questions pertaining to statements attributed to the Minister of Foreign Affairs during his official visit to Japan

The Ministry’s attention has been drawn to certain media reports in the Japanese print and electronic media during Foreign Minister Mangala Samaraweera’s visit to Japan (17-20 June 2015) pertaining to Sri Lanka’s foreign policy.

 

Foreign Minister Mangala Samaraweera Concludes Successful Visit to Japan

Foreign Minister Mangala Samaraweera undertook a visit to Japan from 17 to 20 June 2015 on the invitation of his Japanese counterpart, Minister for Foreign Affairs Fumio Kishida.  The visit, which was the first official visit undertaken by an emissary of the new Government to Japan, focussed on further consolidating the close and friendly relations between the two countries for mutual benefit.

   

Two Sri Lankans win the prestigious Queen’s Young Leaders (QYL) Award

Actg. Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hon Ajith P. Perera felicitated two young Sri Lankan achievers – Mr. Thejitha Saubhagya Edirisinghe and Ms. Kavindya Thennakoon – at a meeting today (19 June 2015) at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. They are among the sixty winners of the Queen’s Young Leaders (QYL) programme 2015 from Commonwealth countries.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs together with the Ministry of Public Order & Christian Religious Affairs jointly handed over Dual Citizenship Certificates to recipients at the Foreign Ministry main conference hall today, 11 June 2015 at 10.00 a.m.
