Issuance of Driving License for Sri Lankans living Abroad

The Department of Motor Traffic of Sri Lanka has revised the existing guidelines regarding the issuance of driving license for Sri Lankans living abroad and has introduced additional requirements.

Applicants for new driving license and upgrading the existing one to other categories of vehicles are required to visit the branch of the Department of Motor Traffic located at Werahera or a district office of the Department.

Applicable charges for the services provided by Sri Lanka Missions abroad have also been revised. The details of the charges are given below:

Renewal of Driving License

  1. Duly filled MTA 30/2  Application 
  2. Current Driving License
  3. Medical certificate obtained from a recognized medical institution in Canada
  4. Valid Sri Lanka Passport
  5. National Identity Card ( not compulsory if the NIC no. is mentioned in the Passport)
  6. Valid status in Canada (PR Card/Work Permit/Study Permit / Visa etc…)
  7. Two Black and White Passport size (3.5 cm X 4.5 cm)  photographs with white background
  8. Money Order / Bank Draft drawn in favour of “the High Commission of Sri Lanka”  for a sum of CAD 145/- (late fee charges of CAD 15.00 is applicable per each lapsed year)
  9. Two pre-paid self addressed envelopes to return the original documents and the renewed Driving License

Duplicate of a Driving License

  1. Duly filled MTA 30/2  Application 
  2. Copy of the complaint made to the nearest Police Station or deformed or blurred  Driving License
  3. Medical certificate obtained from a recognized medical institution in Canada (Medical certificate is compulsory for Heavy Vehicles Licenses ( Motor Coach, Lorry etc..) . Medical Certificate is optional for Light Vehicle Licenses
  4. Valid Sri Lanka Passport
  5. National Identity Card ( not compulsory if the NIC no. is mentioned in the Passport)
  6. Valid status in Canada (PR Card/Work Permit/Study Permit / Visa etc…)
  7. Two Black and White Passport size (3.5 cm X 4.5 cm)  photographs with white back ground
  8. Money Order / Bank Draft drawn in favour of “the High Commission of Sri Lanka”  for a sum of CAD 145/-
  9. Two pre-paid self addressed envelopes to return the original documents and new Driving License

Change of personal details of the Driving License

  1. Duly filled MTA 30/2  Application 
  2. Current Driving License
  3. Evidence for the changes (Marriage Certificate/ Birth Certificate /Divorce Certificate/ documents to prove the changes of residential address etc..)
  4. Valid Sri Lanka Passport
  5. National Identity Card ( not compulsory if the NIC number is mentioned in the Passport)
  6. Valid status in Canada (PR Card/Work Permit/Study Permit / Visa etc…)
  7. Two Black and White Passport size (3.5 cm X 4.5 cm) photographs with white background
  8. Money Order / Bank Draft drawn in favour of “the High Commission of Sri Lanka “ for a sum of CAD 145/-
  9. Two pre-paid self addressed envelopes to return the original documents and the amended Driving License
