Jaffna among leading railway stations, earning higher income

Jaffna is among the leading railway stations that is earning a higher income. Accordingly, the income received from Yaal Devi within 13 days exceeded 7.5 million rupees.

The Yaal Devi resumed operations to Jaffna after a lapse of 24 years on the 13th of this month, under the auspices of the President. The train operates eight trips daily between Jaffna and Colombo. The passengers display a keen enthusiasm to travel in Yaal Devi.

Jaffna Station Master K. Rajanayagam said that given this development, he was holding talks with the Railways Department for the deployment of additional trains. Passengers are also interested in reserving seats.

The Station Master further said that the passengers will not experience any difficulty in reserving seats if they do so 45 days in advance. Mr. Rajanayagam revealed that on the day of the launch of Yaal Devi income received as 600,000 rupees. Now daily income exceeds 800,000 rupees.

This is very high when compared with earnings of other Railway Stations. Many students are displaying keen enthusiasm to visit the Jaffna Railway Station which was renovated after 24 years, he said.
