High Commissioner-designate of Canada to Sri Lanka

The High Commissioner-designate Ms. Shelley Whiting met with High Commissioner Chitranganee Wagiswara before her departure to Sri Lanka.

Shelley Whiting, High Commissioner-designate of Canada to Sri Lanka began her career in the legal field having obtained a BSc from the University of Alberta in 1981 and Bachelor of Law from the University of British Columbia in 1987.

She joined the Department of External Affairs and International Trade, Canada in 1989.  Her foreign assignments include the Permanent Mission in New York and Embassies in Belgrade and Bangkok as Second Secretary and Vice-Consul.  Ms Whiting also served as Ambassador to Bosnia-Herzegovina from 2003 – 2006.  In Ottawa she has worked in different areas including the Open Skies Policy, the International Economic Relations and Summits, International Security and Defence, Regional Security and Peacekeeping, Environmental and Economic Divisions, Human Rights and Humanitarian Law.

She has also served as the Political Adviser to NORAD and as Director of Defence and Security Relations and Senior Canadian Civilian in Kandahar.

From 2011 to end of 2012 she had been the Deputy Head of Mission in Kabul, Afghanistan.
