Authentication of documents

1. Unmarried Certificate

Unmarried Certificate Issued by Canadian Authorities

Applicants who wish to have an Unmarried Certificate attested by the High Commission must submit the following:

  1. A letter of request addressed to the High Commission
  2. Original Unmarried Certificate issued by the relevant Canadian authority (with a photocopy): Kindly note that the document must be duly certified by the relevant Canadian authorities prior to submission. Applicants may visit the official Canadian Government website (Click Here for Government Website) for information regarding the certification process.
  3. Copy of a valid passport
  4. You may include copy of proof of legal status in Canada (visa page, Permanent Residence Card, Study Permit, or Work Permit) or any other documents, if required.

Attestation Fees

  • CAD 60.00- for Sri Lankan passport holders
  • CAD 65.00- for foreign passport holders

If documents are submitted in person, payment must be made at the High Commission counter (Cash / Money Order or Bank Draft only).

If documents are submitted by post, applicants are required to include:

  • Money order or bank draft payable to “Sri Lanka High Commission”
  • A prepaid, self-addressed envelope to enable the High Commission to return the documents securely.

Unmarried Certificate Issued in Sri Lanka- Certification through the e-Das System

If the Unmarried Certificate is issued in Sri Lanka, it must first be attested by the Consular Division or a Regional Consular Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism of Sri Lanka.

Only documents certified through the e-DAS system of the Ministry will be accepted for attestation.

If documents are submitted in person:

  1. Certified copy of e-DAS document (issued by the Consular Division or a Regional Consular Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism of Sri Lanka)
  2. Copy of passport
  3. Attestation Fees (CAD 60.00 - for Sri Lankan passport holders and CAD 65.00- for foreign passport holders)

If documents are submitted by post, please include:

  • Money order or bank draft payable to “Sri Lanka High Commission”
  • A prepaid, self-addressed envelope to enable the High Commission to return the documents securely

2. Power of Attorney / Certification of Signature (Affidavit)

(For Sri Lankan Passport Holders)

Applicants who wish to execute a Power of Attorney and obtain certification of signature at the High Commission are required to submit the following:

  1. Letter of request addressed to the High Commission
  2. Power of Attorney document - (Signature certification will be carried out in the presence of an authorized officer of the Mission.)
  3. Original valid passport (with a photocopy)
  4. Documentary proof of legal status in Canada (copy of visa page, Permanent Residence Card, Work Permit, or Study Permit)
  5. Processing fee: CAD 95.00 (Cash / Money Order or Bank Draft only)


3. Power of Attorney/Affidavit (Already Notarized)

(Applicable to Sri Lankan and Foreign Nationals)

Power of Attorney or Affidavit documents notarized or certified by a Notary Public, Commissioner of Oaths, or any other authorized Canadian official (e.g., bank officer or medical practitioner) with the official seal affixed must be apostilled by the competent Canadian authority before submission to the High Commission. (Applicants are advised to refer to the official website of Global Affairs Canada or the relevant provincial authority for information regarding the apostille process before submitting document to the Mission)  - Click Here for Government Website

Submission In-Person

  • The original apostilled document set
  • Copy of Passport
  • Fees: CAD 95.00 (Cash / Money Order or Bank Draft only)

Submission by Post

  • The original apostilled document set
  • Money order or bank draft for CAD 95.00, payable to “Sri Lanka High Commission”
  • A prepaid, self-addressed envelope to enable the High Commission to return the documents securely

  • The High Commission certifies only the signature of the applicant and does not assume any responsibility for the content, legality, or validity of the Power of Attorney document. Applicants are strongly advised to obtain independent legal advice prior to executing the document.
  • All fees paid are non-refundable.
